This is our first time participating in the Great Plains Balloon Race in Sioux Falls.
Some of the 35 balloons that launched on Saturday morning.
We headed east under overcast skies for a contest of "Hare and Hounds."
Our sponsors and passengers from Marv's Body Shop, Evan and Mindy, participating in the first-time flyer's ritual.
And a toast to the new aeronauts in appreciation for their sponsorship in this year's event.
There really are falls in Sioux Falls, though their course and appearance has changed since the city's founding.
Saturday evening's flight had 37 balloons, including Chic-i-Boom, the first "special shape" balloon to fly (in 1982)
at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.
