May 2, 2009 (PM)   -   A Long-distance Dedication

This flight originated with a phone call from Tokyo.   Vicki called from Japan,
wanting to fulfill her mother's wish to fly in a balloon. We scheduled the flight
for the evening of her parent's 60th anniversary celebration.
We took a few of the family up for tethers before the flight.

Then it was Barbara and Vicki's turn.

A gentle breeze carried us sloooowly over head.

Matt, in Third Priority, joined us in searching for a steerable winds.

Although we didn't cover much distance, the memories spanned years, as Vicki and
Barbara talked about how Gretna had changed and grown, looking out over hills
where Vicki had played as a child.

Vicki caught sight of our shadow playing against the trees.

After touching down just over the hill from where Vicki had grown up, it's time for the celebration champagne.

But first, a little story about the history of the champagne toast.

To Barbara and Vicki, in celebration of a dream fulfilled. The winds have welcomed you with softness...

Thanks to our crew: Brad, Angie, and their dad, Duane, for making it possible!
